Fuzzy Feet Friend Program Fact Sheet
A Fuzzy Feet Friend Program is a great
project for a class, youth group, family, business or other
organization. The following information will give you valuable tips
for preparing your donation.
Slipper Collection
- Groups part of the Fuzzy Feet Friend
Program are responsible for obtaining the slippers that will be
donated
- For health and quality control
reasons, all donated slippers must be new and still have the retail
tags attached. Please do not accept slippers if they come to your
group without tags.
- Collect slippers for boys and girls
of all ages – infants to 18. Collecting slipper socks are
recommended for infants and extra large teen sizes. Some teen boys
have size 12 feet!
- Collect slippers that are fun,
colorful and appeal to kids.
Slipper Preparation
- After you receive the slippers, all
shoeboxes, plastic, tissues, cardboard and packaging materials
should be removed from the slippers. Keep slippers attached
together.
- We recommend you keep the slippers
attached together and tag the slippers with a note that reads “Donated with love from (the name of your organization).” You can
purchase a tag gun at any office supply store to be used by an adult
leader.
- Predetermine how many children will
be at the distribution site. It’s best to take extra slippers
because the children’s sizes vary so much. For example, if you
expect 70 kids to be at the hospital or homeless shelter, you should
take 150 pairs of slippers.
Hospital Deliveries
- In order to make a hospital
delivery, your group’s adult leader must obtain permission from the
head of the hospital’s child life or pediatric department.
- Ask your hospital representative
about the hospital’s policies regarding the distribution of slippers
to patients.
- Many hospitals will not let
individuals personally deliver slippers to kids because the patients
are too ill and/or hospital policies prohibit such visits. If this
is the case, dropping off or giving the slippers to the child life
director or the head of pediatrics for the hospital to distribute is
less complicated and recommended especially if you are donating a
smaller amount of slippers.
- If you are donating a very large
amount of slippers (over 100) sometimes you can get permission to
visit the hospital’s playroom to give a few patients slippers. You
can leave the rest for the pediatric team to distribute after you
leave. In this circumstance, we recommend that only one adult and
one child distribute the slippers.
Deliveries to Shelters and Group
Homes
- Your adult leader is required to get
permission from the facility’s director.
- Shelters and group homes often have
fewer restrictions than hospitals. Check with the facility’s
director to see if the children in your organization will be allowed
to visit the shelter and distribute slippers. Follow the
shelter’s/group home’s guidelines.
Please remember that Fuzzy Feet is here
to bless and serve our communities in a creative and caring way.
Children who are staying in hospitals, homeless shelters and group
homes may be going through a difficult time in their lives. Please
respect the children, their families and the organization you are
visiting. Photographs during the deliveries are discouraged and
usually not allowed at hospitals, homeless shelters and group homes.
To be a part of the Fuzzy Feet program you must complete and mail back
